After Poco, now Redmi is another independent sub-brand from Xiaomi. Today, Xiaomi made an announcement in China about taking the Redmi Series to a separate brand. The company also confirmed that the new Redmi Brand will announce its first phone on January 10 at 2 PM (local time) in Beijing, China.

This move will make Mi and Redmi brands separate and it makes sense because both have different focus. While Redmi focus on smartphones in the budget and entry-level price segment, Mi is for launching high-end smartphones. Poco is also there to offer premium smartphones at an affordable price point.

Xiaomi didn’t confirm anything about the phone, but we are expecting the leaked 48-megapixel camera phone will be from Redmi brand. The 48 number can be seen on the promo teaser. But we are only guessing and it could be anything else. We are also expecting that the phone could be named Redmi Pro 2 as leaked earlier.

This is not a new kind of move. Chinese smartphone companies have a history of doing this. Huawei launched a sub-brand Honor and Oppo recently made Realme and independent brand.
