After several leaks and rumors, finally, Qualcomm has announced its next flagship processor Snapdragon 855 for smartphones. The announcement was made at Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Technology Summit in Hawaii. This is the same chipset that was leaked by the name SM8150. It was the name for internal communication.
Snapdragon 855 mobile platform is based on 7nm process. The smaller circuits mean improvements in efficiency, So better performance and improved battery life. The CPU will feature three clusters, the mightiest clocked at 2.84 GHz, while the GPU will be Adreno 640.
This chip will be used in 5G smartphones. So, the company has confirmed that the Snapdragon 855 will use the X50 modem to answer 5G demand. It will support “multi-gigabit” download speeds on 5G networks.
It features Qualcomm’s fourth-generation, multi-core AI Engine with up to 3 times the AI performance as compared to its predecessor. It also features the world’s first Computer Vision Image Signal Processor for delivering new features for videos and photos.
Qualcomm has also unveiled Snapdragon Elite Gaming, a set of features for improving gaming experience on mobile devices.
The company has also announced Qualcomm 3D Sonic Sensor that is an under-display fingerprint sensor based on ultrasonic waves. It is more secure and accurate than the optical under-display fingerprint sensors which use light.
