Infinix Note 5 Stylus First Impressions: Affordable Phone with Stylus

Infinix Note 5 Stylus

Today, Infinix unveiled its latest smartphone Infinix Note 5 Stylus in India. As the name says, the phone comes with a stylus similar to Galaxy Note9. The company calls this stylus Xpen. Infinix Note 5 Stylus is priced at Rs. 15999 and will be available from Flipkart.

If you look at the front, the phone has a 5.93 FHD+ IPS LCD display. The display has good brightness and nice color reproduction. Unlike other phones of this segment, the phone doesn’t feature a notch. It has a front camera, earpiece, proximity sensor, and front LED flash above the display. It uses on-screen navigation keys and bottom bezel is also large.

Volume rockers and power button are at the left side of the phone. The right edge has a Hybrid SIM card slot. At the base side, it has a headphone jack, micro USB, speaker and stylus slot. Press it to bring it out from the slot. As soon as you bring out the stylus, it opens the easy-to-use Galaxy Note series inspired circular menu to access functions of this stylus.

This Xpen stylus claims to have 4096 pressure sensitive points. But I was not much impressed. It has to be pressed hard on the screen to get the job done. But if you are putting bit pressure, it works fine and you can get lots of work done. Like you can take handwriting inputs, make sketches, doodle and more. You can even write a mathematical equation and it will calculate it.

It has a rear camera and fingerprint sensor on the back aligned vertically. Below this setup, it has Infinix branding. It also has Android One branding at the bottom side of the back.

The phone features a metal unibody build and feels nice in hand. It comes in Bordeaux Red and Charcoal Black color options.

The phone packs 2.0 GHz MediaTek Helio P23 processor with Mali-G71 MP2 GPU. It packs 4GB RAM. I have not properly tested the phone, so I cannot claim anything about the performance. But this setup could have been better considering the price. Well, the compromise here is due to the Stylus addition. The phone is the part of Android One program, so offers pure Android experience. You will also get regular Android security updates.

The phone comes with 64GB of storage with an option to expand storage up to 256GB.

At the time when all phones of this segment come with the dual camera, Infinix has even just a 16 megapixels single camera setup with f/1.8 aperture. The phone still has a portrait mode. There is also a 16 megapixels front camera with f/2.0 aperture, AI beauty mode and AI bokeh. The Softlight flash at the front has been given for low-light selfies. The camera app also has Google Lens integration.

The phone features a fingerprint sensor located on the back panel. It also has dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, micro USB and GPS connectivity options. It packs 4000 mAh battery with support to 18W XCharge fast charging. The 18W fast charger will be included in the box.

Going by the specs, the phone is not much powerful in performance. But the cost-cutting is here to include the Stylus. You already have phones with better performance and camera in this segment. So, the only reason to go with this phone is the stylus. If you really want a phone with Stylus to make sketches and doodles without spending much, then you can go with this phone.
