Qualcomm has announced its new mid-range chipset Snapdragon 675 at its annual 4G/5G Summit in Hong Kong. The company claims that the chipset is less about specifications and more about the user experience. So, you won’t see many upgrades over Snapdragon 670 on papers.

Snapdragon 675 is constructed with 11nm process while the Snapdragon 670 was constructed with 10 nm process. GPU has also been downgraded to Android 612 from Adreno 615. Still, Qualcomm assures that the Snapdragon 675 performs considerably better in real-world scenarios. Qualcomm claims 20% higher performance compared to previous generations.

Snapdragon 675 has two performance cores at 2.0GHz alongside six 1.78GHz cores optimized for power efficiency. The chipset supports LPDDR4X memory and supports up to 8GB memory.

Display resolutions of up to FHD+ are supported. A number of games and game engines have been optimized, It also supports popular tools and APIs, including Vulkan, OpenGL 3.2, OpenCL, and Snapdragon profiler.

Snapdragon 675 with multi-core AI Engine claims to deliver up to 50% overall improvements in AI applications. It also features Qualcomm Hexagon 685 DSP that is destined to provide superior protection when unlocking a device via face recognition.

It features Spectra 250L ISP for 14-bit image signal processing. The chipset supports up to three cameras with 25MP single camera or 16MP dual camera support. It also features improved stabilization, active depth-sensing, multi-frame noise-reduction, and super-resolution. In video side, it features HD slow-motion video at 480 fps and 4K video at 30 fps. You can seamlessly switch between telephoto, wide angle and super-wide angle for a 5x optical zoom. This was not possible in Spectra 250.

On the connectivity side, it features 802.11ac 2×2 Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5, and the Snapdragon X12 LTE modem for 600Mbps (Cat 15) downlink and 150Mbps (Cat 13) uplink.

It also supports Aqstic audio codec and aptX audio playback. Snapdragon 675 also includes Quick Charge 4+ support that promises to charge smartphone battery from 0 to 15% in 15 minutes.

Snapdragon 675 Soc is available today and is expected to be available in consumer devices in Q1 2019.
