Realme 2 Pro

Today, Realme launched the company’s latest smartphone Realme 2 Pro in India. The phone comes with an aggressive price tag and starts at Rs. 13990. I got a chance to use the phone at the launch event. So, here are the first impressions of Realme 2 Pro.

The Realme 2 Pro comes with a beautiful design that not just looks good but feels solid in hand. It looks to have glass back, but it doesn’t. The edges are curved. It has a power button on the right side. The left side features volume rocker and the SIM try slot where you can add two nano SIM cards and a microSD card. The base side has micro USB and speaker grill. It has a dual camera set up at the top left side of the back panel along with a fingerprint sensor. The glossy back feels premium and it really looks beautiful.

Realme 2 Pro features a 6.3-inch FullHD+ (1080×2340) display with 19.5:9 aspect ratio and 409 PPI pixel density. It has a waterdrop shaped notch that the company calls dewdrop notch. The notch houses front camera, proximity sensor, ambient sensor, and earpiece. The display looks really good, offers vivid colors and good viewing angles.

It runs on ColorOS 5.2 based on Android 8.1 Oreo. The UI is fluid with lots of interesting features. The phone packs Snapdragon 660 with AI engine with Adreno 512 GPU. I tested the 8 GB RAM variant. The phone is powerful and offers good multitasking. I also got a chance to experience Asphalt that runs smooth. So, gamers can also go with this phone for decent gaming and powerful performance.

The phone has 16MP + 2MP dual rear camera setup where the primary camera has Sony IMX398 sensor and f/1.7 aperture. The phone also has 16 megapixels front camera with f/2.0 aperture. I tested the camera a bit and found that camera performance is good. Both rear and front camera capture good photos. But giving my verdict without testing camera properly won’t be fair. The camera can record up to 4K videos and the ability to record at 60FPS and EIS are plus.

The phone has a fingerprint sensor on the back that is quick. It also has a FaceUnlock that feature that also works good and quickly unlocks the phone. It supports Dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 ac (2.4GHz / 5GHz), Bluetooth 5 LE and GPS + GLONASS connectivity. Not sure why they didn’t go with USB Type-C.

Realme 2 Pro

Realme 2 Pro packs 3500 mAh battery that is a bit disappointing because the Realme 2 came with 4230 mAh battery. But 3500 mAh is not bad and enough for a full day backup. It also has an intelligent battery management tool that directs power to system resources to optimize battery usage. You also have power saving modes to boost battery life.

Realme 2 Pro is an impressive phone that ticks most of the boxes. It has an eye-catching design with a nice build quality, powerful performance, and a decent camera. At this price point, the phone will compete against the Redmi Note 5 Pro, Motorola One Power, Mi A2, Nokia 6.1 plus and Asus ZenFone Max Pro. Even with tough competition, Realme 2 Pro manages to stand in the competition.
