Earlier today, OnePlus confirmed its plans to launch first smart TV. OnePlus founder and CEO Pete Lau has announced that OnePlus will launch OnePlus TV next year. Pete Lau will lead the new division alongside the existing smartphone division.
Lau mentioned that the OnePlus TV will feature the same premium design for what OnePlus phones are known. The company will focus on offering best image quality and audio experience.
“For most of us, there are four major environments we experience each day: the home, the workplace, the commute, and being on-the-move. The home – perhaps the most important environment experience – is just starting to enjoy the benefits of intelligent connectivity. Something that seems as simple as displaying the photos from your mobile phone to a television is still difficult to achieve. With the development of AI technology, our imagination is endless – and we are looking forward to the future.” said Lau while talking about OnePlus TV.
For now, we do not have much details but we can guess that it will have 4K with HDR and will run on Android TV platform. We can also expect AI features like digital assistant. OnePlus can also brings several content partners on board to offer OnePlus TV users large portfolio of content to enjoy just like LeTV or Xiaomi did.
This is the fist major step towards expanding its portfolio and of course we are excited. Xiaomi is already doing well in this segment. With OnePlus’ entry, the competition will give more benefits to consumers.
