Yu Ace First Impressions : Yu’s Fightback

Yu Ace Impressions

When everyone was thinking that Micromax has given up on smartphone business, Micromax-owned Yu has launched its new smartphone YU Ace in country. When the company started teasing the phone, we though the company would come with a flagship phone. But they launched a budget phone to target biggest smartphone segment of the country. Yu Ace is priced at Rs. 5999 and comes with notable specifications.

Yu Ace comes with all the trending features that the company could bring in a budget phone. Yu Ace features 18:9 display, Face Unlock, stock Android and large 4000 mAh battery.

The phone has plastic body having a curved back. It makes it easy to hold the phone. The back also has glossy finish and attracts fingerprints easily. Back also has fingerprint sensor placed in the middle while the camera module is located on the top left. The back cover is also removable. After you remove the back cover, you can see two Micro-SIM card slots and a microSD card slot.

The right edge has power button and the volume rocker. Buttons are easily accessible at this position. The top side has 3.5mm audio jack and bottom side has micro-USB port for charging.

It features 5.45-inch FullView display having 18:9 aspect ratio and 1440 × 720 pixels resolution. The display looks good an doffers nice viewing angles.

It is powered by MediaTek MT6738 SoC with 2GB RAM. This setup can offer good performance and is fine for a phone of this price. But Yu could select the latest Helio A22. The processor is accompanied by ARM Mali-T860 MP1 graphics. As the phone runs on near-stock version of Android 8.1 Oreo, it offers smooth performance most of the times.

The phone has 13 megapixels rear camera and 5 megapixels front camera. LED flash is present at both rear and front side. Yu Ace is a budget phone, so expecting much wouldn’t be wise. Initial impressions of the camera are good, but I don’t want to make any conclusion with proper testing.

The phone has fingerprint sensor located on the back. The Face Unlock option is also present on the phone. The phone has dual-4G VoLTE along with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS and microUSB. The phone also packs 4000 mAh battery.

Overall it looks a good package for Rs. 5999. Everything that is in the phone works fine, at least for now. HD+ Display, front LED flash, near stock Android and 4000 mAh battery are the notable things in the phone. I personally feel that selection of entry-level segment for launching a phone is a wise move. This segment is primarily ruled by Xiaomi, but other players have scope due to unavailability of Xiaomi devices.
