Spotify is testing a ‘Spotify Lite’ app for Android

Spotify Lite

Spotify has also launched its new data-friendly Lite app for Android devices. Like other Lite apps, Spotify Lite is also designed to take up less space on smartphones and consume less data.

The app is just 15MB in size as opposed to 100MB of main Spotify App. It also tracks and shows the amount of data it uses each month.

Like in other Lite app, you also have compromises in features here. The app doesn’t offer offline playback and Spotify Connect for streaming to other devices. It also seems that there is no option to select specific song and you must rely on shuffle button even if you are Spotify Premium subscriber.

One of the new feature is that users will have option to set monthly data limits. Available options are 250MB, 500MB, 750MB, 1GB, 2GB, and 3GB limits. So, you will never consume more data than you expect it to do.

The app is still in beta and could get more features before becoming available to all users. Spotify Lite just has 4,000 downloads and is being tested.

If the company is testing the Lite version of the app, it means they are ready to launch the services emerging market including India. While there is no confirmed news but we can still make guesses.
