The company has already shown prototype devices having five and nine-lenses. It also managed to achieve shooting capability of up to 64-megapixels using the prototype devices.
Light claims that having many camera units offer much better low light photography and better depth perception offer better bokeh. It this module becomes reality, we will surely see much improvement in smartphone cameras. But what about the lens placement. It will certainly look awkward having so many lenses at the backpanel.
Light has also partnered with Taiwanese phone maker Foxconn for investment to make its concept a full consumer product. The company has promised to launch its camera system by the end of this year.
We have no information about the cost of this setup. So, we cannot say how much you will have to pay for a smartphone having 5 or 9 camera lenses. Light’s L16 camera costs $1950. So, its multi-camera module is not going to be cheap and we are not sure if smartphone makers will take interest.
Until now, Honor is the only company that launched a smartphone Honor P20 Pro with triple camera setup. Before we could get more triple camera phones, we have already the new of multi-camera module for smartphones.
