Corning has announced new Gorilla Glass 6. It is designed to be more durable than its predecessor Gorilla Glass 5. The company claims that devices protected with Gorilla Glass 6 can survive multiple drops.
Corning revealed that Gorilla Glass 6 survived 15 drops from 1 meter onto rough surfaces in lab tests. So, it is two times better than predecessor. It is also supposed to withstand drops from “higher heights.”
“Corning Gorilla Glass 6 improves upon Gorilla®Glass 5 by surviving drops from higher heights, but, more importantly, has been engineered to survive multiple drops,” said John Bayne, vice president and general manager, Corning Gorilla Glass.
The company didn’t talk about its scratch resistance ability as it is same as it was in Gorilla Glass 5. So, Gorilla Glasss 6 is better but not more scratch-resistant.
With increasing use of glass back and edge-to-edge display, it is really important to have proper protected glass to survive accidental drop. The company has designed the new glass by taking care of optical clarity, touch sensitivity, scratch resistance, efficient wireless charging, and enhanced durability. So, the glass protection is now ready to improve your smartphone experience.
Gorilla Glass 6 is now in production and is ready for smartphone manufacturers to use. But it is expected to reach market early next year.
