There could be several cases when you do not want to see posts related to any specific topic on your news feed. It could be a movie spoiler or stories about a political debate. While there were few extensions promises to help you in this, now the Facebook itself started testing a mute feature for specific keywords.

This feature is in tests and is available to a small percentage of users. It allows users to block posts about certain keywords and they will no longer see any post related to it in their news feed.

The feature was first spotted by Chris Messina in Facebook app’s code. Later TechCrunch came with a detailed report talking about the same.

There is no specific option page where you can enter the keywords to mute. If you find a post that includes the keywords you want to mute, tap on drop-down arrow on the post and find the option “snooze keywords in this post”.

Tapping on this reveals a list of nouns you might want to mute. Select all keywords you want to mute. This will snooze the keywords for 30 days.

As you need to find at least one post to mute keywords, this defeats the whole purpose. You might run into the spoiler you wanted to bypass. But the company has promised to look into this.

This feature is interesting as it can give you peace of mind on social media. If you do not want to see hate posts on politics or religion, you can mute those keywods and browse your feed to see only relevant posts.
