OnePlus has finally announced its new flagship smartphone OnePlus 6 at an event in London. This time, the phone comes with totally different design and upgraded specifications. OnePlus 6 comes with totally different design as it has ditched the all metal build we got in OnePlus 5T and previous OnePlus phones. OnePlus has glass back and both front and back have Gorilla Glass 5 protection. So, the new OnePlus 6 is far more attractive phone than the OnePlus 5T. It comes in Mirror Black or Midnight Black colors.

Like other phones, the OnePlus 6 features alert-slider, headphone jack and USB-C port.

OnePlus 6 also comes with a water-resistance without any IP ratings. So, you can either see it as Splashproof or think if OnePlus has saved the money it could spend on obtaining IP ratings. OnePlus claims that you can use it with wet pads and in rain without causing damage.

OnePlus 6 has slightly larger screen size as it features 6.23-inch 19:9 display with a notch. On other hand, OnePlus 5 camera with 5.5-inch 16:9 screen. The resolution remains the same and OnePlus 6 has same Optic AMOLED display panel.

OnePlus 6 comes with 2.8GHz octa-core Snapdragon 845 processor with 6GB and 8GB RAM options. On other hand, OnePlus 5T came with Snapdragon 835. So, there is certainly an improvement in terms of performance. The phone’s tagline ‘The Speed You Need’ also make sense. The company has also made several tweaks in software to make this phone better in terms of performance and gaming.

OnePlus6 comes in 64/128 and 256GB storage options while 5T only had 64 and 128GB sizes. So, you are also getting more storage option. Like previous 5T, 6 also lacks expandable storage. So, select the storage option wisely.

Oxygen OS has also been improved. I really like the way OnePlus tweak its Oxygen OS. It always feels like using stock Android as in Pixel devices but with added options for better experience. Google has just announced Android P beta for consumers and you already know that it is available for OnePlus 6 as well.

The camera hardware remains the same in OnePlus 6. It come with 16-megapixel main sensor and a 20-megapixel secondary sensor in rear dual camera setup. But this time, the primary sensor has OIS. Pixel size is also larger than those in 5T. So, camera performance will be better in OnePlus 6 than we found in OnePlus 5T. The front camera is also same 16 megapixels sensor but it now offers portrait mode. OnePlus 6 can also shoot slow motion videos.

So, camera of OnePlus 6 is better than the camera of OnePlus 5T. Addition of OIS is the most notable thing.

Battery remans the same as both the phones have 3300 mAh battery with dash charge. It will be interesting to see if DashCharge has been improved.

What are the notable improvements

  • Glass design
  • Water resistance (without IP rating)
  • Better Performance with Snapdragon 845
  • OIS and other camera improvements

Should you upgrade?

OnePlus 5T is still a good phone but OnePlus 6 is really better in few areas. The device is better in performance, looks and camera. If you already own 5T but can upgrade to 6, you should upgrade and do it as soon as possible. It is because the 6T will be released in just 6 months.

If you are still using OnePlus 5, the I strongly recommend you to go and grab the new OnePlus 6.
