Today, Google announced a big update for Google Maps that is scheduled to come later this summer. It will keep all the core features of Maps but will be getting lots of new features to make it exciting.

The new redesigned Explore tab will give you everything new and interesting around you. you will see dining, event, and activity options based on your location. Google uses information from local experts, Google’s algorithms, and trusted publishers to show information about these places. There will be algorithmically designed “Foodie List” and “Trending this week” lists to show you places you might visit.

Not just this, if you tap on any food or drinks venue, Maps will also show you a “Match” score that suggests how likely you are to enjoy a place along with reasons. It uses machine learning to generate this number and consider several factors for this.

Google has also made a group planning easy. While exploring the places to visit with friends, you can long press on the place and add it to a shareable shortlist. Your friends can also add more places and even vote. When you decided one place to visit, use Maps to book a reservation.

There is also a new “For you” tab to stay on top of the latest and greatest happening in the areas.

Google Maps knows a lot about these places. It uses preferences based on how you and other people have rated a place. As it knows a lot about you, it knows what you might like.

These features will be coming to Android and iOS coming months. For now, we just know that it is coming later this summer. All these features are for app, not the web.
