Xiaomi has just introduced its own voice assistant in China. Xiaomi calls it Xiao AI and it will be available on Xiaomi smartphones and other connected devices including Mi AI Speaker and Mi AI Speaker Mini.

Xiao AI can do lots of things just by voice commands. You can ask it to play music, wake you up with an alarm, control your home’s smart devices, get weather or traffic updates and take selfies. The demo video shows how Xiao AI can do complex calculation, remember your things and control your home gadgets.

It will be pre-loaded on all new Xiaomi devices including Mi Mix 2S. It will also be available to other Xiaomi phones via an update of MIUI to the latest Chinese version.

For now, Xiao AI just understands Chinese and returns results in Chinese. We have no information if the company has plans to launch it in any other countries. But I hope India launch by the end of this year or early next year. India is a big market for Xiaomi and the company can not leave their larger user base waiting for its interesting features.

Interesting thing is that Xiaomi and Microsoft partnered to launch AI based smartphones and Smart speakers. Now Xiaomi seems to be working independently on its own digital assistant.

Xiaomi’s Xiao AI has put the company on the level of Apple, Google, Microsoft and Samsung who also own a smart digital assistant. This is just initial launch, SO Xiao AI has a lot to learn. But I am really excited to experience this.
