Xiaomi has also jumped into the smart speaker segment that already has Google and Amazon like key players. Xiaomi’s subsidiary Yeelight has launched a new product Yeelight Voice Assistant that is a smart speaker powered by voice.

Yeelight Voice Assistant looks similar to Amazon Eco Dot. The company has not gone with its own assistant but used Microsoft’s Cortana to power this device. It is because of a partnership between Xiaomi and Microsoft to use some of Microsoft’s services in Xiaomi’s products.

It is also reportedly powered by dual AI systems and the second one is Amazon’s Alexa. Use of Alexa can make this device more capable and compatible with today’s smart home products.

It has four buttons on the top side – action button, microphone on/off button, volume up button and volume down button. It also has an additional button in the center to put the speaker in mute mode.

Yeelight Voice Assistant is powered by a 64-bit quad-core Cortex A53 chipset clocked at 1.2 GHz with 256 MB RAM. There is also a 256MB of flash storage. It has 4GHz/5GHz Dual-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth LE connectivity options.

It features an advanced wake-up algorithm that can listen from a 5-meter range. It has a set of six microphones to effectively listen to your voice. Xiaomi is also using Acoustic Echo Cancellation and Beamforming technology to reduce the ‘echo’.

This product will be sold for 199 Yuan starting January 31 in China.
