Amazon has unveiled Amazon Key, a service that aims to deliver your packages inside customer’s home for secure delivery. Amazon Key mixes smart security with Prime service to give a safer delivery option in place of leaving branded boxes on doorsteps.
If you are one of those persons who shop a lot on Amazon but are not at home often to receive their order. Amazon will have access to your home to deliver package inside your home.
The service requires special equipments including internet-connected Amazon Cloud Cam and compatible smart lock. The service is secure and smart to make sure only right delivery person gets access to your address. The delivery person will have an app to unlock the lock. He can only unlock if he scans the right package belonging to your order.
The customer will also receive a notification to their phone when the delivery boy arrives and can choose to watch the drop-off live on their phone via the cloud-connected camera.
Amazon also claims that the service is encrypted to prevent hackers from getting access to your home through Amazon Key.
Amazon also confirmed that the key system will also be compatible with other services. So, homeowners can grant access to other service providers including cleaners when not at home.
The service will be available initially in the US starting November 8 across 37 cities. The cost of the equipment is $249.99.
The company didn’t talk whether Amazon Key will come to other countries, but I am sure it will if gets success in the US.
