Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, has overtaken Bill Gates to become the richest person in the world. Now Jeff Bezos has 91bn of value while the Gates’ wealth is of $90bn value.

This report is based on the real-time billionaire’s index compiled by Forbes. Bill Gates has been the richest person since 2013. But the recent rise in the share price of Amazon pushed Jeff Bezos at the top of the list.

Not just Bezos, Amazon’s market value has also recorded good growth and it surpassed $500 billion this week for the first time.

Jeff Bezos founded Amazon back in 2004 to sell books online from his garage in Seattle. Later, he expanded the business to make Amazon a big online retailer in the US. Amazon now accounts for 43% of everything sold online in the United States. He has already used his wealth to buy Washington Post and invested in space travel through Blue Origin. He founded Blue Origin back in 2000.

At the start of 2017, Bezos was ranked fourth in the list behind Bill Gates, Warren Buffett, and Amancio Ortega. In seven months, he managed to top the list.
