Google made available the developer preview of Android O a few months back. Now the search giant has released the Android O beta. You can download it from android.com/beta.

Android O comes with lots of new features. Google says that new Android O will bring fluid experiences to mobile screens and will offer improved battery life.

Google had added notifications dots. It is the little circle at the corner of an app icon to show that the app has a new notification to check. If you long press on the icon, it will open the notification in the preview window.

Android O will offer Smart Text Selection. It will identify the business names and addresses from around the web to highlight the whole segment. So, you do not need to manually select and unselect the part, piece by piece.

It already announced Picture in Picture feature but it is not coming in developer preview. This feature will open the video in floating box and it will be above other apps. So, you will be able to watch a video and work on a different app at the same time.

Google also says that new Android O will take less time in booting and should offer improved battery life.

It also added new feature Vitals that will help developers in finding issues related to security and battery life in apps. It will help them in developing apps that are secure and less battery eater.

The company also launched Google Play Protect to protect your device from real-world and digital threats.

Much like last year, Google didn’t confirm what the O in Android stands for. We can keep guessing until Google officially confirms the name.
