Moto G5 First Impressions – A Moto phone Dedicated for Amazon Prime Users

Moto G5

Today, Motorola launched Moto G5 in India. Moto G5 is priced at Rs. 11999 and is available exclusively on Amazon.in. There are various launch day offers with Moto G on Amazon. If you buy it today, you will be eligible to get these offers. I already used and reviewed Moto G5 Plus. If you are interested in that, you can read Moto G5 Plus review and know about that phone.

Moto G5 also comes with similar kind of design as in Moto G5 Plus but with smaller form factor due to 5-inch display. It also has the same kind of home button with the fingerprint sensor and one button nav option. You get on-screen navigation key if you do not want to use one button nav.

At the left side, it has volume rocker and button. At the top, it has 3.5 mm audio port and it has microUSB at the base side. The most notable change in this Moto G5 is that the back cover of the phone is removable and battery is removable as well. You get two SIM card slots and one microSD card slot.

Even with the removable back cover, the phone is splash proof. It users waters repellant coating to protect the phone but make sure that back cover is properly installed.

The phone has 5-inch Full HD display with 441 PPI pixel density. It delivers vivid colors and fine details. The display is also good for outdoors. The display also has Gorilla Glass protection to avoid scratches.

The phone comes with Android Nougat with clear interface and smooth experience. You get different software features including Google Assistant, Moto Display, Moto gestures and multi-window mode. I have already talked about software experience in Moto G5 Plus review. You can read that article.

The most notable thing in the phone is that it is made to give you dedicated Amazon Prime experience. When you turn on the phone for the first time, it asks for Amazon Id in place of Google Id.

The phone has octa-core Snapdragon 430 Soc that is not as powerful as Snapdragon 625 in Moto G5 Plus. This is a disappointment in the phone. You get 3GB RAM and 16GB storage with option to expand storage. The phone is good for day to day tasks and social media apps, but I have doubt on its gaming performance and heavy usage performance.

The phone has 13 megapixels rear camera with f/2.0 aperture, PDAF and LED flash. It also has 5 megapixels front camera. Due to restricted light, I couldn’t properly check the camera. But, Initial impresses shows average camera performance.

Moto G5

The phone comes with 4G, WI-Fi, Bluetooth, MicroUSB and GPS options. It is packed with 2800 mAh battery. It also supports 10W Rapid Charging. On paper, battery looks smaller but Motorola devices always offer good battery experience. So, I am optimistic for its battery.

Even if Motorola has lot more things to talk about the phone and they are not wrong at all. A phone with low specs with good performance is always better than a phone with high-end specs on paper but low on performance. Motorola has done this in past. But Moto G5 is in wrong pricing window. At this price, we have Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 with much better specs and performance. The only advantage Moto G5 has is the splashproof design.
