Facebook launches Facebook Spaces, its Social VR Platform

Facebook Spaces

At Facebook’s F8 developer conference in San Jose, Facebook has announced its first real VR app, Facebook Spaces. This app allows you to create an avatar and hangout with friends in a digital dimension. The app is still in “very early” Beta.

Facebook Spaces is for those who have Rift and Touch virtual reality hardware.

You can invite friends and share 360 spaces together by using the Spaces and Rift & Touch. You along with your friend can enjoy a virtual place together without actually being together.

If you want to meet someone, not having VR, in VR space, you can call into Spaces with a smartphone and you will be able to share 2D videos and more. The app will also use the entire 360 content library available on Facebook.

Facebook initially demonstrated this back in October last year when Mark Zuckerberg demoed how he and his colleagues were sharing a digital space, sharing photos and taking selfies in a 360-degree rendition of Zuckerberg’s home.

Spaces is now available for free to all those who have Oculus Rift + Touch.
