Last week, Google confirmed the Google Assistant for Android phones running on Android 6.0 or higher. As of now, it is available only for English users but Google promised to bring more languages support throughout this year.
Google is rolling out Google Assistant as an OTA update to Google Play services. So, it does not require lengthy testing period from phone manufacturer.
