Earlier today, Google launched a new website “Google Open Source” to showcase its open source products at once place. It will help developers in checking over 2000 open source projects at once place and engage with any product or learn how to use.

Google has also released the documentation and code both. So, you can not just download the code, you also know how to use it. These docs also explain the process Google followed for releasing new open source project, submit patches and how to it brings the open source code in the company to use in Google’s services.

Products on the website have been categorized. So, searching a product based on interest is easy. If you go on the individual project page, you can see the small description, language, and license.

Google has not just used the various open source software in its own services or products but it also contributed in several tools over the past few years. Recently, its JPEG Encoder was also in news. There are many other that developers use and integrate into their applications. Google run programs like Google Summer of Code and Google Code-in. It also sponsors various open source project. So, it makes sense to bring all those software together at one place.

As a developer, I am really happy with this step. It will help me to get information about more open source projects I never knew about. What do you think about this step? Let us know your views in the comments.
