Xiaomi just announced Surge S1, its first in-house manufactured Soc at an event in China. This Soc was rumored for long time and Xiaomi along with Pinecone was working on it for past 28 months.

This Soc is made using TSMC’s 28nm HPc process technology. It also has ARM Mali T860 GPU, 32-bit DSP for voice processing and 14-bit dual ISP for enhanced image processing.

Xiaomi claims that Surge S1 beats Snapdragon 625, MediaTek Helio P10 and Helio P20 in Geekbench 4.0 CPU multi-core benchmark and GFXBench Manhattan off-screen benchmark.

This chipset supports VoLTE high quality call and video support. It also comes with Chip-level security.

With the launch of its own Chipset, Xiaomi aims to go away from Qualcomm and MediaTek. If Surge S1 gets success, Xiaomi will surely go ahead with more Soc and power its own smartphone with its in-house developed Soc.
