A Few months back, it was rumoured that Paytm is considering to shutdown its marketplace to focus on payments business and give Alibaba a space to enter in India. Opposite to this, Paytm has now introduced a new online marketplace Paytm Mall.
Paytm Mall claims to come with a unique combination of the Mall and Bazaar concepts to Indian consumers. It will only allow trusted sellers to sell on the platform. All these sellers will have to strictly follow the quality guidelines and qualification criteria.
After the launch of Paytm Mall, Paytm is expected to shift the marketplace available on its Paytm.com to Paytmmall.com soon.
Few reports also suggest that the launch of Paytm Mall also marks the formal entry of Alibaba into the e-commerce sector in the country.
As of now, the Paytm Mall app is available for Android and web (Paytmmall.com). It has already listed over 68 million products sold by 1.4 lakh sellers. It is also offering shipping to over 1000 cities and towns across the country. We can expect the app for other mobile platforms soon.
