Google to install 200 Wi-Fi Hotspots Zones in Pune

Google India has bagged a big project in India. This time, the company has got the contract to set up over 200 Wi-Fi hotspot zones in Pune, Maharashtra. For this project, Google has partnered with IBM, L&T, and RailTel.

Google will deploy the Google Station platform to manage the Wi-Fi network and provide the seamless connectivity at all public places.

Google will be working with the Pune Smart City Development Corporation Limited (PSCDCL). Google will also try to grab the contacts of other cities and expand its Wi-Fi services to more locations.

This contract is valued at Rs. 150 crores and includes the capital expenditure, operating expenditure and revenue sharing elements.

Other cities that are also in the list of Smart City project in Maharashtra are Mumbai, Nagpur, Amravati, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Thane, Aurangabad, Nashik, Kalyan-Dombivali, and Solapur.

It is worth to note that Facebook is also testing the Express WiFi in the country to provide the cheaper internet. As per recent rumors, Alibaba is also looking to jump into this market and provide free or cheap internet.
