Vivo V5 Plus First Impressions – The Ultimate Selfie Phone

Vivo V5 Plus

Vivo launched its V5 smartphone back in November last year. Today, the company unveiled its upgraded variant Vivo V5 Plus priced at Rs. 27980. This phone will be available to buy from both online and offline channels starting February 1.

Vivo V5 Plus comes with dual front camera setup to offer ultimate selfie experience. I got a chance to spent few hours on the phone and here are mt Vivo V5 Plus first impressions.

Vivo V5 Plus borrows the design element from iPhone 7 with same placing or antenna bands at back. It also looks like Vivo V5. Above the display, it has dual camera setup with proximity sensor and moonlight selfie flash. Below the display, it has the Physical home button with capacitive touch buttons on either side. It has the power button and volume rocker at the right side and hybrid SIM card tray at left side.

The base side has 3.5 mm audio port, micro USB port and speaker grill. At the back, it has the rear camera with dual color LED at top left side. The phone is nicely built and looks beautiful.

The main attraction of the phone is its camera. It has 20-megapixels front camera with Sony IMX376 1/2.78” sensor, f/2.0 aperture and an 8-megapixels secondary front camera to capture depth information. The bokeh effect is awesome. You can even retouch the focus. The front camera is backed by moonlight flash to get good selfie experience in low light.

It also has 16 megapixels rear camera with dual-LED flash, f/2.0 aperture, and PDAF. Not just front camera, the rear camera also captures nice photos.

Vivo V5 Plus comes with 5.5-inch Full HD display with Gorilla Glass 5 protection. The display is good and offers good color reproduction. It has good viewing angles as well. The touch response is also smooth.

It runs on Funtouch OS 3.0 based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The UI is smooth and light. There is no app drawer and apps icons can be found on the home screen. The quick settings icon can be found by swiping up from the bottom of the display. The UI is clean and looks similar to iOS.

The phone is powered by 2.0GHz octa-core Snapdragon 625 SoC with 4GB of RAM and Adreno 510 GPU. The phone offers smooth performance. At this price, we have phones with Snapdragon 820 but Vivo has used the Snapdragon 625 to keep the manufacturing cost low and offer better battery life. In our limited usage, this phone performed well.

The phone is packed with 3055 mAh battery that supports fast charging. While I couldn’t test the phone’s battery, I believe it is fine enough. The reason is that the phone is only for selfie lovers and these people usually have light usage.

This phone offers 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.2, and GPS connectivity options. The fingerprint sensor of the phone is also very fast to unlock the phone.

Considering the price, this phone has competition with phones like Moto Z Play and OnePlus 3. But, the dual front camera setup makes it a unique offering.
