It seems video calls on WhatsApp will soon become reality. WhatsApp beta for Windows Phone got this feature and few Windows Phone users are able to make video calls on WhatsApp.

WABetaInfo shared the snapshot of the feature on Twitter.

Now if you click on the regular call button, you will be offered two options – voice and video calls. This feature works as simple as voice calls. Call logs also shows whether the call was a voice call or a video call. Video calls also offer options to swap between the front and rear cameras during the call. You can also mute audio.

It is surprising to see WhatsApp working on video calls for Windows Phone while majority of smartphone users use Android and iOS platforms. If WhatsApp has started testing video calls on Windows Phone, we expect to see this for iOS and Android soon.

While Google is trying to compete with WhatsApp with its new app Allo, adding video calls will put WhatsApp in direct competition with Duo.
