We are witnessing the advent of Dual Cameras in smartphones, as they are becoming a trend now. Though they aren’t new, many phone manufacturers have started using it to its potential recently. A few years back we have seen the HTC One M8 sport a dual camera, and recently iPhone 7 Plus took on this setup.

The Smartphone Chip maker, Qualcomm wants to make the Dual Camera setup better and in its support, it debuted the ‘Qualcomm Clear Sight’ technology. The chip giant states that this technology mimics the attributes of the human eye. It mimics the ‘Cones’ and ‘Rods’ of the human eye and hence gives great output with optimal contrast and brightness.

The Clear Sight features two cameras, each with its own lens and image sensor. However, one lens captures color while the other can capture only in black and white. Because of this, the images captured has an improved dynamic range and sharpness. When the color information from the other  lens is merged, the image is spectacular. The low light photography is supposed to be much better as the black and white sensor has the ability to capture light is increased by 3x.

This technology will be supported by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 and 821 processors. These processors will have a dedicated core for the cameras. The Spectra ISP inside these processors merge and process the data from both cameras quickly and instantly produces a high-quality picture.

Although there aren’t any smartphone companies partnered yet, we can surely be excited about the future of smartphone cameras in near future.
