Today, Google has released the final Developer Preview of Android 7.0 Nougat. After this, this new mobile OS version is ready for users and Google will soon start rolling out to supported Nexus devices.

Final release is scheduled for some time in Q3. We have no confirmed date for this.

There does not seem to be lots of changes. This release offers a near-final look. Google is also encouraging developers to test their apps against this final version and fix all the bugs.

This final Developer preview of Nougat includes:

  • System images for Nexus and other preview devices
  • An emulator that you can use for doing the final testing of your apps to make sure they’re ready
  • The final N APIs (API level 24) and latest system behaviors and UI
  • The latest bug fixes and optimizations across the system and in preinstalled apps

If you are already enrolled in the Android Beta Program, you device will automatically receive the update right away. You do not need to do anything for the update. If you are not yet enrolled in Android Beta, the easiest way to get started is by visiting android.com/beta and opt-in. Once you enroll, you will receive the preview update over-the-air.

You can also flash a system image.
