Apple announces iOS 10

At Apple’s Worldwide Developer Conference 2016 in San Francisco, Apple has just made iOS 10 official. This is the 10th major update to its mobile operating system which comes with many new features. The company also calls it  biggest iOS release ever for users. Here’s what’s new.

Lock Screen

In this iOS 10, Apple has redesigned the lock screen of the device. It has the feature called “Raise to wake” which wakes the phone’s lock screen when it is lifted to show you notifications or updates.

3D Touch

Now, 3D touch has become the more important part. Now, you can see the preview of notifications with 3D touch. You only need to deep press on a notification and it will load your notifications. For example message, notification will open your message conversation. 3D touch shortcuts on the home screen have become better. You can now access to live information directly in the 3D Touch popup.

Control Center

The control center is now redesigned with better icons and sections. Now, it has a dedicated music control widget. You can access to this widget by swiping right on the notification center.

Photos

Photos app in iOS has become smart with its Face recognition. With its deep learning algorithm, it can track object and scene to properly organize your photos. It can build memories from your vacation with a good cover photo.

Messages

Apple has also improved Messages. Now, it shows rich previews. If you send YouTube link in messages, it can be played directly from Messages app. App will also suggest you emojis based on what you type. Tapping on camera app now shows a live camera feed.

Apple Music

Apple has redesigned Apple Music from the ground. The connect tab has been removed but you can still use connect. Now Playing screen has been redesigned to look more like Rdio. When you open the Music App, it starts with library tab.

You also have a Discovery Mix to suggest you more songs.

Apple News

Apple has also redesigned Apple News with clearer sections. It also got a new trending section that picks and arranges stories based on what you usually read. If you subscribe to a section, you will get notifications right on the lock screen.

Apple Maps

Maps will also receive the big update with Proactive suggestions based on your locations. Apple is also opening Apple Maps to third-party developers. So, you can do most of the tasks on third-party apps direct from Maps.

Voicemail messages are now automatically transcribed. Other small features include live photos editing, notes collaborations,”End-to-end encryption” with the on-device intelligence, Split View is now on the iPad Safari browser and more.

There are many other features which Apple didn’t mention during the presentation. We are keeping an eye on all updates and will update this post once we have information about all new features.
