For past few days, we have been hearing rumours about the 140 character limit of Twitter. Now, Twitter has officially confirmed few changes to the way it counts 140-characters in a tweet. With these changes, you have more space in tweet because

Now, @replies will not be counted in your 140-character limit. Pictures, videos or any other attachment will no longer be counted in 140 character limit. But, this is only for media you directly upload to Twitter. Links to Instagram or other photo sharing website will be counted.

Now, .@replies is no longer be available. Just mention a user and this tweet will reach to all of your followers. So, you no longer need to use the “.@” convention.

Now, you can retweet your own tweets. So, you can now quote your own tweet.

Twitter also confirmed that the changes are not available instantly but will be available over coming months. So, you will have to wait to get all these changes officially. This announcement was basically for developers to be ready for these changes and make changes in their apps accordingly.

Twitter also confirms to bring more such changes to make your conversation on Twitter more interesting. So, you should expect more changes in coming months.
