Tata Group has finally decided to enter into the booming e-commerce market. On May 27, it will launch CLiQ, an online marketplace with Apparel, Footwear & Electronics categories of products. For this product, a new business entity has been created called as Tata Unistore.

CLiQ is not a random name and company has a logic and explanation behind this logo and name. Ashutosh Pandey, chief executive officer of Tata UniStore said, “The ‘Q’ in the logo represents a magnifying glass – a visual representation of the brand’s focus on curating only the best brands and products.”

At the time of launch, the company will introduce its presence in both desktop and mobile platforms with apps. It will be the first instance when a major online marketplace has been launched on all platform on the day 1.

As of now, website of CLiQ is just asking email of users in return of some free goodies. Once you enter your email and subscribe, it asks you to invite your friends to get a discount coupon to use once the website is launched.

This is not the first online venture of Tata group. It already owns My247Market.com which was launched last year to sell online food and grocery.

It is worth to mention that Aditya Birla Group is also in the same business with its portal: Abof.comReliance also owns apparel portal: ajio.com. It can be seen as a potential competitor, but Tata has marketplace model as an advantage.
