Instagram was launched as a mobile-only service but it also made available a web version to let users check their Instagram feed without opening the phone. Now, it has added another useful section in Instagram for the web to make it more useful. Instagram for the web now offers a notification tab to check all the notifications including recent comments, followers and likes.
Notifications tab is now available for all users across the globe. You will not see a new icon (heart shaped) just before the profile icon. Clicking on this will open the notifications.

Instagram debuted on the web back in 2012 and then added likes, comments, scrollable feeds and search as a part of regular updates. These updates were not so fast, but Instagram considers web presence important. This is the reason, we get updates with new features.
We can also expect Instagram to allow users post new photos direct from web. It will help photographers who use DSLR to capture photos. They have to first transfer photos to mobile phones before publishing the photos on Instagram. Giving us the option to post photos direct from the web will increase the activities. I hope Instagram will consider this request.
