Facebook is working to integration SMS way on messenger to allow users to receive, read and respond to conversations. Not just SMS integration, Facebook is also working to add multiple accounts support in the messenger app.
Few years back, Facebook Messenger had SMS integration but it was later removed. Now, Facebook wants to bring it back and lets users access and respond to conversations on SMS. A different option for SMS will be available in the messenger app. Messages sent via SMS will have a purple color background.
Messenger is already popular in the US. With this integration, it is now trying to compete with iMessage or SMS conversations.
Finally, Facebook Messenger is also getting multiple accounts support. I am not sure how many people will use this feature because managing more than 1 messenger account does not make much sense. Many people even avoid messenger app on mobile devices for various reasons.
Until today, Messenger had no easy way to switch accounts on Messenger. Users needed to uninstall and reinstall the app to switch account. Now it has added an ‘Accounts’ option in settings. It lets people use other messenger accounts. No need to worry about privacy, these accounts will also password protected to avoid other users reading your messages.
This was spotted on Messenger for Android but other platforms will also get it soon.
These things are in testing and are only available for few selected users. So, you will have to wait long before Facebook officially confirm these features.
