Mozilla has confirmed the end of Firefox OS smartphones. At Mozilla’s developer event in Orlando, It has confirmed to stop working on development of Firefox OS. In just 2 years of lifetime, Firefox OS smartphones are now officially dead.

Firefox OS was a lightweight smartphone OS which could only run web apps. Company targeted only entry level devices to bring cheaper smartphones. But low-cost Android phones are already there to compete with Firefox OS based smartphones. Reports also confirmed that Mozilla is also planning to bring support for native Android apps, but that never came.

TechCrunch also got official confirmation from company about the closing of its Firefox OS project. Company confirmed to bring more such type of experiments for connected devices soon.

Firefox OS was a nice concept but users didn’t take interest. Main reason for the failure was only focusing ultra low-cost phones. No one is interested in buying a phone with 256 MB RAM. Even Android is not able to sell these kind of phones now. For people hardware specs matters. Second reason was trust with this OS. When we have better phones running on Android in similar price range, why would someone try a new OS.
