vodafone hackedVodafone has just confirmed a bad news for few Vodafone customers. Bank details of 1827 Vodafone customers may have been accessed by hackers. Accessed information include names, mobile numbers, bank sort codes and the last four digits of their bank accounts.

A Vodafone spokesman said, “This incident was driven by criminals using email addresses and passwords acquired from an unknown source external to Vodafone. Vodafone’s systems were not compromised or breached in any way.”

The attempt to access customer’s details had been made between midnight on Wednesday and midday on Thursday. Company has already started investigation and informed the National Crime Agency about this data breach.

Good thing is that no credit card or debit card information was accessed. So, customers can feel safe. Vodafone has already contacted to the banks of affected customers. Company has also informed to affected customers about this data breach. Hackers can perform some kind of phishing attack to get more information from customers. They already have enough information for social engineering.

This year was not so good for companies in terms of cyber security. We have seen various big hacking incidents and data breaches this year. I hope companies will learn from their mistakes and improve the security of their platforms to avoid such incidents.
