Screen Shot 2015-09-09 at 4.30.11 PMIndia’s biggest online retailer Flipkart is considering to exit from e-books business. According to report from TOI, company has focus on physical products and it do not want to continue selling e-books from its marketplace.

The announcement came in the time when its tieup with self-publishing platform Smashwords coming to an end. This tieup was done back in 2013 to sell more than 200,000 e-books. Now,  this partnership ending and company is also thinking to exit from this business.

Smashwords confirmed that this partnership couldn’t renewed because Flipkart is not able to support the dynamic nature of the Smashwords catalog. We can assume that Flipkart couldn’t try to renew because it wanted to exit from this business.

Flipkart has also gave an statement: “Currently, we are evaluating our eBooks strategy and are working towards redefining our digital offerings to our customers.”

It seems that Flipkart is not getting proper response from eBooks business. This is the reason, it is thinking to exit from this business. This is certainly a good news for Amazon which will now have no competition in this segment.
