Motorola has launched Moto G 3rd Generation in India in two variants. One is with 1 GB RAM and 8GB storage for Rs, 11999 and other is with 2 GB RAM and 16 GB storage for Rs. 12,999. I am not sure why 1 GB variant because no one will compromise for 1 GB RAM for Rs. 1000. Ok leave it for now. In this post, I am going to write my first impression with Moto G Gen 3. I already posted Hands-on review which you can watch at the end of the post.
Moto G 3rd Generation: First Impression
Design:
Moto G 3rd Generation looks similar to its previous generation phone. It has the similar design of plastic with textured matte back cover. Grip of the phone on hands is very good. Edges like brushed in the colors to feel like metal. It has two speaker bars at the front. It has power button and volume rocker keys at the right side, 3.5 mm jack at the top and micro-USB at the bottom side.
Back cover of the phone is removable to install SIM cards and microSD card. Battery of the phone is non-removable.
Design of the smartphone is not very outstanding, but this solid build will surely offer an confident you have a good friend.
Replaceable Color shells and replaceable Flip shells will also be available.
Display
It has a 5 inch of HD 720p (1280×720 display which offers good viewing angles and viewing experience. Display may not compete with full HD and quad-HD display but it will still offer good experience. Screen is also protected with Gorilla Glass. So, you do not need to worry about normal falls and scratches.
Hardware
Moto G Gen is powered by Snapdragon 410 processor which is an upgrade from Snapdragon 400 processor used in previous generation. It has four 64-bit Cortex-A53 CPU cores and Adreno 306 for enhanced gaming performance. It will be available in 1 GB and 2 GB RAM variants. So, you can choose any as per your choice. 1 GB variant will offer only 8 GB internal storage which 2 GB model will come with 16 GB internal storage. Both variants will offer microSD card slot.
Performance of the device seems to be good at first use. I am not sure if it will degrade by the time.
Smartphone also comes with IPX7 rating. It can survive up to 3 meter inside water for up to 30 minutes. In this price range, this is the only smartphone offering water resistance.
Camera
Camera of the smartphone has been improved. It has 13 megapixel rear camera with f/2.0 aperture and dual LED flash. It also has a 5 megapixel front camera. So, we see upgrade in both cameras as compared it with previous generation Moto G. Both camera performs really good as per the given specifications. Camera sensor is same which was also used in Nexus 6.
Software
Moto G 3rd Gen runs on Android 5.1.1 offering near-stock Android experience with few Motorola specific apps. Software performance is good and offer lag-free experience while using the device.
Connectivity
Unlike previous gen Moto G, company has launched the device with 4G connectivity. Previously, 4G variant was available as a separate unit. Other connectivity features are 3G, Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi direct, USB OTG, microUSB and GPS. It is a dual SIM phone.
Battery
It has a non-removable 2470 mAh battery. Motorola claims that battery performance has been improved. Previous gen Moto G phone had good battery performance, so we can expect the improved performance with this device.
Final Verdict
In this price range, it may not have the best hardware specifications. But, performance of the device will not let you feel down. Cameras are performing good and hardware performance is also impressive. You will get a solid built smartphone with water resistance feature. I recommend this phone because I am existing Moto G user and know how robust that phone was.
