There is a good news for Indian mobile phone vendor Micromax. According to the data released by Gartner, Micromax has now become the 10th largest mobile phone brand in the world with 1.7% market share globally. Company released the data for Q1 2015. In this time, Micromax sold around 8,158,000 units of mobile phones globally.
Despite of the fall in sales, Samsung is still at the top of the chart with 21.3% market share. Apple is at the second place with 13.1% market share. Microsoft, LG and Lenovo came at third, fourth and fifth places respectively. You can check the graph below to see the top 10 mobile phone vendors with the market share.
“Worldwide mobile phone sales to end users totalled 460.3 million units during the first quarter of 2015, a 2.5 percent increase from the same period in 2014. In light of their strong smartphone sales in the emerging markets, the Indian and Chinese phone manufacturers increased their footprint during the first quarter of 2015. Six of them were in the top 10 in the first quarter of 2015,” said Anshul Gupta, research director at Gartner.
Gartner report didn’t confirm whether the Yu brand sales was counted in Micromax or not. Micromax claimed that Canvas series helped company a lot in gaining the market share worldwide. Micromax also made its entry in Russia to become an Indian brand to be recognised globally.
Micromax is growing with good pace. It also surpassed Samsung in India to become top mobile phone vendor and also surpassed Apple to become the largest tablet vendor in India. But Entry of Chinese brands hurted Micromax’s sale. With more Chinese brands coming in India, Indian market is becoming more competitive. So, Indian marketing is getting more number of low-cost smartphones with high-end features. This competition is going to give more benefit to consumers.
