Facebook Now lets you share a post in private messages

Facebook has quietly added a new feature. Now, it lets you share a post with friends in private message. This option has been added in web and mobile apps both. You can share any post from an individual user or from page to a single or multiple friends just by clicking on share link.

I noticed this change today, but one of my friend confirmed that she received this update almost a week ago.

When you click on share link in any post, now you will see three options: Share Now, Share.. and Send as message.

Facebook share to message

Selecting Send as Message will let you select any of your contacts to send this post in private chat. You can also select multiple contacts to send. Selecting link with multiple contacts will start a group chat with all those contacts.

Same feature is also available in Facebook for Android. You will now see new “Send as message” option.

Facebook new option

Until this update came, it was only showing two options. Share Now and write post. See the snapshot below. Most of the users are still seeing this. Updating app may bring the new option to share a post in message.

Share facebook

This feature was rolled out in India around a week ago. Few users started seeing this via web and mobile app both. Few users are still not able to see this in desktop site too.

I checked the Google Play listing of the app and couldn’t find this update in the last update change log. But most of the users with updated Facebook app found this feature.

If you are still not able to see this new update, wait for few more days on desktop. It may also be a test feature only with few users. We cannot confirm whether it is just a testing or final rollout.
