We all read news stories and watch news channels to get in touch with latest news around the world. But to be in touch with local news around your area, you are dependent on people living around you. Most of the times, you get news from your neighbours of family members that something happened to your area. It will never be covered by news channels or newspapers unless it is too big to be covered as story. Local news often have direct impact on your life. So, it is important to be updated. If you want to be in touch of hyperlocal news stories of your area, “Local Press Co” mobile app is here to help you. This app focuses on curating news from real people living around your area. People can report news stories that could be interesting for you.
Local Press Co depends on its users for news. Users can report news within seconds with its mobile app. To report a news, users only need to write a headline, an image, a category & location. Once a news story has been added, it will be served with people around that location. Users will receive that news by location preferences. News stories will be hyperlocal, so validation is not possible for the company. This is why, this task has been given to users. Users can also comment, share & subscribe to news reports.
Note: As I already mentioned that product will be available by the mid of June. So, Final product might be slightly different than the current one shown in snapshot.
Users can select if they are interested in getting news from around their current location. But this option will use GPS and hence will consume more battery. So, users can select location manually for less battery consumption.
Users can report if the story is false. Users can simply ‘vouch’ for news that they think is accurate and ‘dismiss’ the news that is inaccurate. Reports will high accuracy will be at top and reports with less accuracy will be ranked lower.
Users who actively report news stories are assigned a ‘trust score’ based on the news report’s accuracy and count. This trust score can be green, yellow or red. If it is green, it means news reported by the user is usually accurate. Red means, news stories reported by the user are mostly false.
Local Press Co is available in private alpha version. It means, it is not open for users. Company confirmed that the app will be released in the first week of June for users in app stores.
