Facebook And Nokia Quietly partners for Here to power Location Data On Facebook’s Mobile Apps

Few days back, it was reported that Nokia wants to sell its Here maps unit and Facebook is interested in buying it. Now, reports are confirming that Facebook and Nokia has agreed on a deal in which Nokia’s Here maps will power Facebook’s mobile apps including Instagram and Messenger.

Facebook has already started testing this for mobile web of Facebook. Company is also testing it in Android version of its apps. After testing is successful, it will also be added to iOS apps.

Although there is no official announcement about the deal. But TechCrunch received response in affirmation after asking about the deal from Facebook and Nokia.

“We are testing Nokia HERE maps across Facebook to give us more control and flexibility in delivering a consistent maps experience,” a Facebook spokesperson confirmed to TechCrunch.

Here, I only have one confusion. Facebook has not ended up buying Here maps. What if someone else will buy Here in near future. There is some hidden secret in this deal.
