ZTE Grand S3 With Eye-Based Biometric Authentication Launched at MWC 2015

ZTE has launched “world’s first smartphone” with eye based biometric authentication solution at the Mobile World Congress 2015 in Barcelona. This new smartphone is called as ZTE Grand S3. Now, the smartphone is available in China for CNY 2,999. There is no word on global release of the smartphone.

Key feature of the smartphone is its eye based authentication which enables users to unlock phone by using EyeVerify’s technology. It utilizes “vein patterns in the human eye” to unlock the handset.

“EyeVerify is excited to launch Eyeprint ID for users of ZTE devices – enabling highly accurate biometric authentication that eliminates password pain,” said Chris Barnett, EVP Global Sales and Marketing at EyeVerify.

If we talk about hardware specifications, it features a 5.5 inch display based on One Glass Solution. It is powered by a 2.5 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor with Adreno 330 GPU. It is packed with 3 GB RAM, 16 GB internal storage and microSD card slot to expand up to 64 GB. Surprisingly, it runs on Android 4.4 (KitKat) OS. It has a 16 megapixel rear camera with dual LED flash and a 8 megapixel front camera.

Connectivity features of the smartphone are 4G LTE / 3G HSPA+, Bluetooth, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n (Dual Band), GPS/aGPS. It is packed with 3100 mAh battery.
