Google has quietly released a new Google Chrome extension “Data Saver.” This Google Chrome extension compresses web pages to save on bandwidth.
If you install and enable this Google Chrome extension, it will start using Google’s servers to compress web pages before downloading. Compressed web pages will use less bandwidth. It is worth to mention that SSL pages and incognito mode web browsing will not use this extension to protect your privacy.
This data saving feature is already available in Google Chrome for Android and iOS. An unofficial extension was already there which was using Google’s servers to compress pages and save bandwidth. But you have an official way now.
