Kolkata free wifiKolkata has become India’s first 100% WiFi metro city with 4G speed. This wifi network is powered by Reliance Jio network. As of now the service is not available in whole city. It is only available at the posh Park Street and surrounding areas. But soon it will be available to entire city covering all the 149 wards in the city. It is expected to come for entire city in April.

Reliance Jio has earlier tested this wi-fi and achieved up to 50 mbps speed consistently. It means users are going to get good connectivity. Good thing is that this wi-fi is unlimited and is completely free for the whole year.

With this step, Kolkata has joined cities like Singapore and Taipei which also offer free wi-fi service.

Chief Minister Mamta banerjee tweeted about this launch with hashtag #WiFiKolkata.

“From February 5 a free 4G Wi-Fi internet service will be offered at the Park Street and its surrounding areas. And within next two months the whole of Kolkata will enjoy the free service.” Mamta banerjee said at the 39th International Kolkata Literature Festival.

New Delhi also has two spots Khan Market and Cannaught Place where users can enjoy free wifi for few minutes. But Kolkata has offered this for free for a year.
