MediaTek Introduces MT2601 for Google’s Android Wear

MediaTek Introduces MT2601 for Google’s Android Wear

mediatek-chipMediaTek has announced its MT2601 Soc for Google’s Android wear based devices. This new Soc features 41.5 percent less components and lower power consumption. Its design makes it cheaper and it offers longer battery life. This is what really important for wearable devices.

This chipset includes 1.2 GHz dual-core ARM Cortex-A7 and ARM Mali-400 MP GPU. It supports qHD display resolution. MediaTek MT2601 chipset interfaces with external sensors and the wireless connectivity SoC MT6630 for Bluetooth.

“The MT2601 has an incredibly small die size and is highly optimized for cost and power performance. The platform solution, comprised of MT2601 integrated with Android Wear software, will fuel the maker revolution and empower the application developer community worldwide to create a broad range of innovative applications and services,” said J.C. Hsu, General Manager of New Business Development at MediaTek.

MediaTek has already started the mass production of the chipset. We can expect cheaper wearable device running on MediaTek MT2601 in coming months.
