Hike Messenger has announced free voice calling in India with new feature ‘Hike Calls.’ Hike Calls will allow users make voice calls for free over 2G, 3G and Wi-fi networks across the world.

This feature is only available for Android users. There is no word on iOS, Windows and BlackBerry platform. This feature is launched as a result for Hike’s Zip Phone acquisition.

Company claims that Hike Calls are optimized to consume less data and give better call quality. To make voice call, open the profile of the user in Hike and tap on the dialer icon.

“While building free hike calls, we kept two things in mind. Firstly, India is a very cost sensitive market and as a result we’ve ensured that our service is extremely efficient on data. It means our users can pack in more minutes per MB when calling on hike. Secondly, we’ve made hike’s free calling service available globally in over 200+ countries. Hikers from India can now speak with their loved ones in India and across the world for free,” said Kavin Bharti Mittal, Founder and CEO, Hike messenger, in a press release.

with 35 million users in India, Hike is competing with WhatsApp. WhatsApp is also working on voice calling feature which will come soon.
