Gmail has announced a new step to make its Gmail better and more useful. Now it supports non-latin characters and accented characters in email addresses.

In 2012, Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) created a new email standard which suports email addresses with non-latin characters (e.g. 武@メール.グーグル). To make these standard reality, every email service provider and website which ask for email musct adopt these standard. Today, Google has announced that Gmail (and shortly, Calendar) will recogniz email addresses with non-latin characters. So, you will be able to send emails to and receive emails from users who have these accented characters in email. In coming months, you will also be able to create account with these to create new Gmail accounts.

Google pointed out that 50% of world’s population uses Latin characters in native langiages. So, support for these characters will surely bring more users to Google services.
