HTC Desire 310 [Review]

HTC Desire 310 with 4.5-inch display, quad-core MediaTek processor announced

In February, HTC launched its mid range smartphone named HTC Desire 310. Though the firm came little late in offering affordable smartphones and make a right move in the mid range smartphones. It has neglected huge number of customers by pricing their devices so high before the launch of HTC Desire 310. Now the firm has understood that India like market wants low cost smartphones. In this post, we are going to discuss the detailed review of HTC Desire 310.

Design and Look

HTC desire 310 is 11.25mm thick and it weighs around 140g. The smartphone is quite overweight. Talking about the gripping of the smartphone in our hand, it is quite good. HTC Desire 310 is available in two colors Dark blue and white. Like every smartphone, the back cover can be removed and inside we have 2000 mAh battery. There are also two slots for the SIM card and a slot for the microSD card.

Desire 310

Talking about the front design, HTC desire 310 has 4.5 Inch screen that is good for operating all operations. It has a VGA front facing camera and also a front speakers just a little side of camera. The right edge of HTC desire 310  has a power and volume button which is very much common in all smartphones.

Display and Storage

Talking about the features and specifications, HTC Desire 310 has 4.5-inch screen which has a resolution of 854×480 and it is not a HD display. You can call it as a normal one and also does not have a long life according to the reports.

HTC Desire 310 has 4 GB internal memory out of which only 1.8 GB is available for users. It is the second very big disappointment of the phone. Other smartphone firms are offering 8 GB internal storage in the same price range so why should customer not buy those smartphones if he is not the die heart fan of HTC.

HTC desire 310 supports microSD card and the memory can be expanded upto 32 GB. Also, there is one prominent feature that the front facing camera can capture videos at 1080p. The smartphone supports Dual SIM but they will work on active standby mode.

Processor

The HTC Desire 310 has a quad-core Mediatek MT 6582 processor that is clocked at 1.3GHz. According to the AnTuTu benchmark, the processor is rated at 17,136 which can be considered to be a quite decent score for the smartphone of this price . It has only 512 RAM which is very less because many games and applications will not be supported by this smartphone.  We have tried to play 720p videos and it was playing absolutely fine. The Clarity of the sounds while talking seems good. Even in low network we have tried and call quality is ok.

Camera

In very simple words HTC Desire 310 does not have a good camera because it lacks many features like autofocus and LED flash. Images that are captured in day time does not have very good clarity. So from the camera point of view HTC Desire 310 is a disappointment. In low light or in dark the camera is totally useless. It is also equipped with VGA front facing camera and the one of the unique feature is that it captures video at 1080p but secondary if you think it is totally useless since the resolution is is not good at all in VGA camera so whats the point of 1080p video.

There are few good things available like panorama and HDR. But I don’t want to discuss because you already know what these feature are. Overall conclusion is that camera is not worth and it is a disappointment in this smartphone.

Battery

It is powered by a 2000 mAh Li-Polymer battery. Company claims that it will last up to 11 hours while talking to others. And Stand by time of the smartphone is around 5 weeks. If phone is not in use, it consumes very less battery. While connected to wi-fi, I left it on the table for the whole night. And found that it only consumed 4% battery in 8 hours.

Software End

Talking about the software end, HTC Desire 310 runs on Android 4.2.1 (Jelly Bean). The smartphone does not have customized Sense UI interface. HTC Desire 310 has 3 home screens and the firm tried to consolidate all the android stock in these three screens. It has many third party applications embedded such as WeChat, Twitter and Polaris Office Suite, all of which could be useful. There is one interesting app in the smartphone which can instant slideshow photos and user can add music or a theme. It is nothing fancy, but is definitely an interesting inclusion.

Pros

  • Consistent performance
  • Good battery life

Cons

  • Average display
  • Poor camera
  • Low RAM

Conclusion

I want to say that HTC Desire 310 has positive aspects in the sense of looks, design, audio but it is lacking in many main areas like  camera, RAM and display. The smartphone is priced at Rs. 11,358 and available for lower price in various retailers. At this price, it is comparable to Lumia 525 having the similar price but better features.. HTC still needs to work on the pricing and the features they are focusing. Otherwise they will loose the customers. Smartphone market is very competitive, so everything matters now.
