Today at its build 2014 Conference, Microsoft has announced that its .NET compiler platform “Roslyn” is not open source. Microsoft’s Anders Hejlsberg made the project public on Codeplex live on stage.
Microsoft confirms that this decision is the part of company’s initiative .NET Foundation. In this, Microsoft has planned to make multiple components of .Net opensource. As of now, 24 .NET opensource projects are ready to start under Apache 2.0 license.
With this initiative, Microsoft wants to encourage developers to come and participate in more .NET related open source projects. It will also help in making .NET platform popular among developers.
